North Head, Moruya
North Head Campground at Moruya is a basic but delightful place to pull up the van. It provides many features for a lazy time with the family or alone.
North Head Campground is run by the local council and has a caretaker on site during the days. The features are basic: two amenities blocks with flushing toilets in one and pit toilets in the others. Apart from an outside beach shower, there are no washing facilities. Both bore water and drinking water are available.
While cutting of wood is prohibited, depending on the fire danger rating, wood fires are allowed and the caretaker can sell you wood or you can bring your own. There are also rubbish skips provided.
The campground provides a very peaceful setting on grass and under trees. When I was there, while being fairly full, there was little noise. The main draw is North Head beach which is about two minutes walk from the campground. The beach is patrolled during the day time by life guards and clean and inviting.
Those interested in fishing can try either beach fishing or there is a long break water that has a path across the top.
To get to the campground, follow the signs to Moruya airport. With the airport in sight, you will come to a three way Y style intersection, leftmost into the airport carpark, centre into the campground and right down to a turn around and various places to parl to access the beach.
I camped there for a night just before christmas so peak season. You are very much paying a premium for the closeness of the beach at $17 per adult and $4 per child per night. Off peak the prices go down.
I really enjoyed my stay. A quiet wind down in the quiet campground and the empty beach. However I felt the prices to be a bit high for what was offered. Since there was only one person, I stayed, however it is probably out of the price range of the three of us. We would expect excellent showers and power for this price and even then I would want a lower price.
